Would you Zune?

Microsoft's Zune franchise is set to rival mainly that of Apple. The Zune player, format, software and store would be directly up against the familiar and successful iPod, AAC format and iTunes. But what are the hopes for Zune?

Good things about Zune
It's brand new, and can encompass the very latest technology
It can learn from the mistakes of everything before it (eg scratches on iPod nano)
The included WiFi will be able to be used for sharing media and Internet connectivity
Built-in FM tuner, working in America, Europe and Japan
Likelihood of becoming a portable gaming device, competing with the PSP and DS

Bad things about Zune
We've already spent hundreds on iPods
We don't want to be forced to buy all our copy-protected music again
There will be restrictions on the purchased media and WiFi, so might not be that useful

It doesn't look like the Zune is worth chucking away your iPods just yet, but if the WiFi, radio and gaming systems all become integrated, we see no reason to hang onto silly single-use devices. So long as Microsoft don't get to greedy, and they do it right... Viva la revolution.
