There has been much hullabaloo and controversy over Windows Genuine Advantage, a small Microsoft application that sits on your PC and repeatedly 'reminds' you to purchase Windows if you're using a non-genuine copy. Validation is required to download most software from the Microsoft site.
Meet Office Genuine Advantage, a similar program for Microsoft Office, set to become mandatory from today. From now on, any Office Online templates downloaded from within the Office 2007 Microsoft Office System applications will require validation of legitimacy.
On another note, Intel believes that malacious codes, viruses and other security threats may become a worry of the past. Inte's R&D team is currently working on Trusted Execution Technlogy, previously known as LaGrande. Trusted Execution Technology or TXT will use hardware keys and subsystems to control what part of a computer's resources can be accessed and who or what will be granted or denied access.
Also, a weakness has been discovered in Internet Explorer 7, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct phishing attacks. In a pop-up window after a user clicks a specially formed link on an untrusted website or in an untrusted e-mail, the left part of the URL is not initially displayed. Microsoft have been swift to fix this bug in IE7.
