Zune Launched

Today Microsoft finally announced the juicy details of their new iPod rival.

Colours: black, white or brown
Specs: 30gb HD, Built-in FM tuner, 3" QVGA screen, WiFi
Supports: MP3, WMA, AAC, h.264

The WiFi is used for wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing.. with restrictions. You can share a full-length track with a friend, and they can listen to it 3 times over 3 days, then choose to purchase it from the Zune Marketplace (unless they're an unlimited Zune Pass subscriber). Unprotected homemade recordings, along with playlists and pictures, are not subject to these restrictions. Microsoft also hint heavily at future software updates to take even better advantage of the wireless capabilities.

There is still no word on pricing or availability, although we do know that the first Zune player, by Toshiba (described above) should be out later this year. Future Zunes could include gaming systems to rival the PSP.
